According to US copyright law, any work is automatically copyrighted when it is created and does not require any registration or publication. However, individual authors may find registering their work with the copyright office beneficial, as doing so would make ownership of the work much easier to prove in court. Additionally, notice of copyright has been optional since the the Berne Convention Implementation Act, which took effect in 1989. We choose to use the notice here to avoid confusion and delineate ownership.

Further information regarding copyright, registration, and copyright notices can be found at the US Copyright Office website, specifically this circular containing basic information.

Authors may find it beneficial to include an individual copyright notice in each post, although this is not necessary. See here for more information, on page 3 under the section entitled "Contributions to Collective Works".
